Introduction of Yantai Nanshan University

     Yantai Nanshan University is a common undergraduate university which is invested by state-grade large enterprise Nanshan Group for 1.5 billion RMB yuan. Set up in 1991, then approved by Shandong Provincial Education Department in 1996, it began to cooperate with other common universitis to implement adult junior college education. In 1998, it exercised Education Diploma Exam pilot Junior College education. In 2000, ratified by Shandong Provincial People's Government, and registered in Ministry of Education, it became a full-time private-running common college which was qualified junior college education, and in March, 2005, ratified by Ministry of Education, Yantai Nanshan University was founded on the base of former name "Shandong Nanshan Vocational and Technical College".

     Yantai Nanshan University has acquired popular praise by all the society because of its standard management and srict style of study, excellent education quality and high empolyment rate and high empolyment satisfaction rate. It has been entitled successively "Advanced Collective of Academic Management of Shandong Province", "Advanced Unit of High-tech Talent Training", "Advanced Unit of Social Power School-running of Shandong Province", "Advanced Unit of Education of Yantai City". In 2002, it was entiled "Advanced Unit of National Vocational education" by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labor and Social Security, National Economics and Trade Commission. In 2005, Nanshan University was ascertained by Shandong Provincial Education Department as "Backbone Demonstration Vocational and Technical University".

     There are ten schools: school of electromechanical engineering, school of automation engineering, school of information engineering , school of economics and trade, school of business management, school of information management, school of tourism management, school of modern manufacture engineering, school of arts, school of foreign languages and literature. There are 18,997 full-time college students, 51 undergraduate majors and junior college majors, the university set engineering majors as main body in subject structure and major setting, other subjects such as arts, science, management, economics are developed harmonily. Electromechanical intergration major and tour management major are national and provincial teaching reform pilot majors respectively, computer application and electromechanical intergration are model majors of Shandong Province.

     At present there are two campuses in Nanshan University: Nanshan campus and Donghai campus, covering an area 3500mu, building area 828,000 square meters altogether. Now there are 1,168 full- time teachers including 372 professors and associate professors and 12 foreign teachers.

      There stored 1,650,000 books in the library. The teaching apparatus is worth 103,000,000 yuan, also we have 67 labs, 68 multimedia classrooms, 12 language labs, 4385 computers, 2 large net engineering labs, 2 sets of Ip satellite receivers, as well as swimming pool, gyms, standard stadiums, auditoriums, green playgrounds,etc.

      In ten years process of school-running, Nanshan University has been continuing to explore the development law of private-running high-learning education: insists on the school-running notion of " Quality Fostering Reputation, Characteristics Creating Advantage, Innovation Promoting Development, Talent Fostering Brand"; persists in academics as key center, innovating school-running notion and outstanding of its characteristics; deals with the relationships among scale, stucture, quality and benefit in the scientific development view. It has changed from the enlarging of quantity and scale to the promoting of quality and efficiency. During the period of 11th "five-year planning", we will continue to persist in the tenet of "service economy ,service society ", to follow market economy law and high learning education law, to insist on scientific development view of sustainable deveolopment , to walk along the road of "developing connotation, integration of production, learning and research". Based on Shandong Province and facing the whole country, we plan to build high-quality, skill-type and application-type professional talent education model, which can adjust to economic construction and staisfy the necessity of social development, and improve the whole talent education quality. Nanshan University are to be built a multi-discipline university which has engineering as its key discipline, together with harmonious development of arts, science, engineer, economics and management, also with reasonable scale and structure, prominent school-running characteristics.
